Pixar director Brian Fee met with Entertainment Weekly to discuss one of 2017’s most highly anticipated films, Cars 3. Since November 2016, when Pixar released a teaser trailer that showed Lightning McQueen spinning out of control mid-race and bore the daunting message, “From this moment, everything will change,” fans have been speculating about what’s in store for the beloved racecar. Finally, Fee revealed more about the upcoming movie that has Disney enthusiasts more excited than ever.
Fee introduced two new characters who will appear in Cars 3: Jackson Storm (voiced by Armie Hammer) and Cruz Ramirez (voiced by Cristela Alonzo). These new cars are both millennials, twenty-somethings who represent the new and technologically-advanced generation of racecars. In contrast, Lightning McQueen is nearing middle age and starting to get too old to race. While Jackson Storm is ready to dominate the racing world and push aging racers like McQueen out, Cruz Ramirez is a lifelong fan of Lightning, and her unwavering optimism plays an important role in her job as Lightning’s new coach.
