It’s starting to warm up in New York City, but the last thing that’s on my mind is bare feet. Every time I leave my house, I’ll either wear sneakers, boots, or something in between — but there’s no way I’m ready to wear flats or heels on their own (just yet, that is). While I have considered dabbling my toes in a sockless-shoe every now and then, I won’t — though actress Sydney Sweeney just showed a middle-ground way to do so right now.
The actress was spotted out and about in New York City on February 26; more specifically, she was en route to an event for beauty brand Laneige, which she’s an ambassador. And TBH, by the looks of her ‘fit, you’d think it’s spring. She wore a long, pastel purple dress that was subtly sheer — a trend we’ve been seeing crop up a lot in the NYC street style scene. But she didn’t stop there, obviously. She’s Sweeney! She’s always going to take it a step — nay, two steps — further.
The actress accessorized the simple, lilac maxi with a big, bold corset belt that gave the dress’ simple silhouette some added dimension. She rounded out the look with a white, chain-strap bag, black sunglasses, and last but certainly not least, white, knee-high peep-toe boots that are going to raise some eyebrows. Yes, they’re controversial, and yes, I want a pair now.

Peep-toe shoes aren’t strangers to sparking controversy, and while people certainly love to hate the style that might conjure up thoughts of your grandma’s footwear closet, it’s not stopping A-listers from wearing them. Sweeney is the most recent, but she’s certainly not the first to let her toes breath in the silhouette. Martha Stewart regularly wears peep-toe wedges ( honestly, she rocks them so well). Kylie Jenner also wore a super bold pair a few years ago that might make you cringe, but you have to admit, she styled them perfectly.
Letting your toes shine — even in the wintertime — is proving to be a big trend for 2024, so, prepare your toes!. (Aka, call up your go-to nail salon and swipe on a bright color.) The footwear style is a fun way to add some dimension to a look.
