According to officials, Bettorf was delivering shotgun shell primers at the ammunition site when the tractor-trailer he was driving exploded.

On the spot, Bettorf was identified as deceased. According to a preliminary autopsy, the 60-year-old had injuries to his head, neck, and chest.

The incident included a company car, according to the business, and an investigation into what happened has been launched.

“We are deeply saddened that a Winchester employee was fatally injured this afternoon in an incident involving a company vehicle at the company’s East Alton facility,” a company spokeswoman said in a statement.

“The family and coworkers of our employee are in our thoughts and prayers. We will fully investigate what happened because this is a tragedy, the official stated.
