Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham were left in tears as England crashed out of the World Cup after suffering more penalty heartbreak at a major tournament.

France prevailed as 2-1 winners against the Three Lions to progress into the semi-finals where they will face Morocco for a place in next week's final.

But Les Bleus were pushed all the way from Gareth Southgate's side who have once again exited the World Cup with a spirited and brave display.

France took the lead through Aurelien Tchouameni in the first half, before Kane equalised from the penalty spot to become England's joint top scorer.

Olivier Giroud then headed the defending champions back in front in the 78th minute, only for England to be awarded another spot-kick moments later.

But Kane this time blazed his effort high over the bar in what would have made him England's leading goalscorer.

England failed to carve out any more clear-cut chances, with Marcus Rashford's last-gasp free-kick inches away from nestling in the corner.

It proved to be the last kick of the game, with England players failing to contain their emotions following the full-time whistle.
