She was born and raised in Nagpur.
Gayatri made her debut theatrical film appearance as Gita in Swades in 2004, alongside the likes of Shah Rukh Khan and Kishori Ballal.
Gayatri made her debut as a video jockey on Channel V India, after which, she left to pursue her modeling career.
She won the Femina Miss India International title in 2000, and later, she went on to represent her country at the Miss International 2000 in Japan. It had been her childhood dream to compete in the pageant.
Joshi has appeared in various music videos over the years including Jagjit Singh’s Kaghaz Ki Kashti and Hans Raj Hans’ Jhanjaria.
In 2001, Gayatri modeled for the Seasons Catalogue and Calendar.
Gayatri decided to retire from acting after getting married to Vivek in 2005.
In October 2023, video footage of Gayatri and her husband Vivek went viral after they were involved in a car accident that took the lives of a couple and caused damage to several hundreds and thousands of dollars worth of cars. Vivek who had been driving the blue Lamborghini crashed into an overtaking red Ferrari resulting in the car being run off the road and eventually bursting into flames. Gayatri’s car then slammed into a mini-truck and tipped it over before finally coming to a halt offroad.
Though Gayatri escaped unscathed, Vivek was said to have suffered facial injuries and also maybe looking at several years in prison if charged with double road homicide under Italian law.
