A mum has revealed some of the rules for attending a royal garden party at Buckingham Palace. The Queen welcomes around 30,000 people to the palace and Holyrood in Scotland every year, taking the chance to meet people from "all walks of life". You can't get invited by asking the palace directly, it has to be through an established network of sponsors.
TV producer Melissa - or Mummatrona to her TikTok followers - took to social media to share the dos and don'ts of royal garden parties. She received her special invite on the Queen's birthday instructing her to go to Buckingham Palace this Wednesday. Strangely though the letter forbid her from bringing her invite, instead asking her to bring ID.
She said ladies were told they could wear a day dress with a hat, uniform but no medals, or a trouser suit. Men could wear a morning coat, lounge suit, or uniform but no medals. She added: "Chains of office may be worn and national dress. We could have gone as Morris Dancers, why didn't we think of that."
Going through the list of banned items, she revealed large cameras, tablet computers, hand luggage, rucksacks, and anyone under 18 was on the list. However, if "you do have children, living at home, unmarried, they can come with you".
Moving onto the big question of photography, she said "guests are allowed to take small cameras or camera phones, but please keep cameras at a respectful distance while members of the Royal Family are present". Speaking aside to her fans, Melissa said "Yeh, might not be doing that".
The garden party was a little wet, but Melissa said "the food was so much better than I expected". She managed to meet Prince Charles with her husband, and captured it all on camera.
